History
Dating back to 1812, the home was the original farmhouse built on Spring Street in the town center of South Salem, NY. The original resident owned all of the farmland in the area and lived off the land. As you can see from the photo, the basic shape and structure of the home has not changed and its humble and authentic style have been maintained, true to the time period. The original barn adjacent to the home stands firm with two stalls and was inhabited by horses and livestock. The Horse and Hound Inn continues to be a friendly neighbor to this day for a drink, a bite to eat and maybe even a ghost story.
South Salem is one the five hamlets of Lewisboro, which is surrounded by notable neighbors and communities, with North Salem to its North, Pound Ridge to its South, Katonah and Bedford to its West. The South Salem historic hamlet and neighborhood is rich with dozens points of interest near the Spring Street Farm, making it an ideal place to explore the area.
